It’s only in practice that you notice the gaping chasm.
The site you are looking at now. In IE6 you will need JavaScript enabled, to achieve the same functionality.
Click or hover on an item to see more details.
ζMy Portfolio
- Work Done:
Designed and built in Drupal version 6.
This site is structured in a list and detail form: If you hover over an item, the details will be visible in the box. If you click on an item, this becomes the default set of details – shown when no item is being hovered. This involves no reload from the server and uses no JavaScript, no AJAX / AHAH, just pure CSS.
This provides a graceful degradation for browsers without JavaScript or with it disabled, without sacrificing functionality.
- Design Inspirations:
The lower-case Greek letter ζ, seen as a watermark in the details panel: This refers to any one of a multitude of mathematical functions involving the infinite sum of terms raised to a complex power. These functions seem to be on the border between the predictability of discrete functions, and the infinite detail of continuous functions such as the Mandelbrot set.
- Client Comments:
Two main motivations really:
- To provide a convenient place to publish some of the work I’ve been doing.
- To showcase some css techniques I’ve been developing, soon to be contributed to Drupal.
I’m very happy with my site
Hope you like what you see.
Delhi Live is based in the UK, but is all about what to see and do in Delhi.
The work brought the site up to date, and implemented new features.
ζDelhiLive
- Work Done:
The site was updated to version 5.7 from version 5.1 for security reasons. This involved removing several modifications to core and contributed modules, and re-implementing them properly within the theme.
The theme itself was largely untouched, though I did change a few details that had been minor annoyances and setup several new regions, to use the block administration rather than hard-coded PHP/SQL in the templates.
I then implemented two new features
- a dynamic listing of recent articles based on taxonomy.
- automatically displaying a region, only if no content is promoted to front page, supressing the Welcome to your new Drupal website! message.
- Design Inspirations:
I have not modified the over-all look & feel of this theme – the colours feel exotic, though not a combination I would have thought of myself.
The site is almost as busy as Delhi itself, so care is needed to maintain consistency of style and avoid confusing the user.
I would like to design alternative themes, inspired by patriotic colours, or evoking the changing seasons in India.
SCYMI is a new NGO based in the UK and working for the youth of the Sudan.
This site was designed and built from scratch, based on a modified siberia theme.
ζSCYMI
- Work Done:
The theme siberia, was enhanced for this site, and a couple of small issues fixed.
Functionality was built specifically for this site, including a reference article with a table of contents, always visible as the document scrolls, for easy navigation within a large document.
I installed, and now maintain this site.
- Design Inspirations:
The graphics try to convey the vast skies and distant horizons of the Sudan. I tried to incorporate the green of vegetation too, but this proved to be too many colours.
